NOWCOVERY - overcome your addiction.

TM

NOWCOVERY defined: a way of living life that is designed to create the most appropriate level of health achievable for one’s mind, body, and spirit.

Do you want to stop abusing substances? Do you need help with your addiction (substance abuse or behavior addiction)? NOWCOVERY is NOT a program. It is a way of living based on several principles. NOWCOVERY has developed and evolved from the experience and knowledge I have gained from over 15 years of studying people who have overcome substance abuse or addiction, many with dual diagnoses. It’s truly about learning HOW to live a new way. You CAN move forward into a new life by making optimal choices in the moment, in the NOW, you can build a life that you can thrive in SOBER and free from addiction.

What you will get from working with Tracy

  • Progress in sobriety. Are you tired of staying sober for two weeks, a month, or 90 days only to pick up again? Learn the why’s of your use. (You may be surprised to find out!)

  • Support that you can count on more frequently than a counselor can see you. Early sobriety may mean consistent daily support. If you have been trying and failing, you know this to be true. Counselors cannot provide daily support. (I do believe a counselor should be an integral part of your support team)

  • Blueprints. Early sobriety is full of pitfalls. I can help you avoid them by seeing them and then developing plans for how you can maneuver things like weddings, funerals, parties, and work events.

  • Education on how your emotions are connected to your addiction or substance abuse.

  • Understanding the relationship between alcohol and other drugs and depression, anxiety, ADHD, chronic pain, and other diagnosis.

  • Long term support. As you feel stronger, I will transition you into a coaching plan that fits with what you need.

Some Principles of Nowcovery:

  1. Living life in an authentic manner is the goal. To live authentically, we cannot be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. For us, alcohol and other drugs stunts our life.

  2. Each person’s Nowcovery can look different from another’s. We each define our own success in accordance with our individual abilities. There are certain milestones to use, but they should be flexible.

  3. Sometimes “being better” doesn’t necessarily mean being “symptom-free”. Each moment provides us with an opportunity to manage our symptoms the best way possible.

  4. People do their best daily. Some days we have an excess of energy to put into doing our best, other days we have limited energy, and our best may look different that day.

  5. One of the ways to be most helpful to ourselves is to speak kindly and lovingly to ourselves.

  6. Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s one of the most damaging things to do. It completely sabotages forward motion.

  7. Acceptance of our emotional state is extremely important. We cannot afford to berate ourselves for our emotions. (See Theory 4).

  8. Duality can be frustrating (feeling or thinking two different ways about something at the same time). But for many of us, this is what we live with daily. By accepting the opposition, instead of fighting against it, we allow ourselves the peace we need to have an enjoyable life.

  9. If we want our lives to improve, we must accept that we need help. Nowcovery believes in utilizing counselors, coaches, support groups, doctors, possibly medication, community resources (such as churches), and chosen friends or family to aid us, and perhaps most importantly, a higher power. Nowcovery is not meant to be done alone.
